shoreline luminescence at GLOW / september 25th, 2010 7PM - 3AM / Santa Monica, CA
john carpenter, jerry digby, and alex deutschman

shoreline luminescence is an immersive audio-visual experience that encourages viewers to explore the fluid, dynamic, cyclic and emergent nature of ocean waves and sand patterns at the santa monica beach. in this installation, the ocean waves continued up the beach as projected light and interacted with the viewer.

a software-based virtual environment was projected into the physical space of the shoreline. the waves and sand acted as the canvas for the system, and the visuals were computer generated light drawings that reacted to the movement of the water, sand and viewers. additionally, real-time audio recordings of the ocean bathed the viewer in an augmented soundscape.
