bio
john carpenter is an artist and designer who uses immersive installations to explore how people interact with complex natural spaces. based in santa monica, he works for morphosis architects (2005-present) as the visual and interactive designer, and teaches programming at loyola marymount university. john recently earned his MFA from the department of design | media arts in the school of the arts and architecture at UCLA (2009) where his thesis work, Shoreline Equivalent: Qualitative Spaces in Interactive Art, uses qualitative observations of sand patterns at the beach to convey the fluid, dynamic and emergent nature of the shoreline.

prior to joining morphosis, john worked with davidkremers, the caltech conceptual artist, and dr. scott fraser in the brain and biological imaging centers at the california institute of technology (2001-2005). john graduated from the university of arizona in 2001 with a BS in molecular and cellular biology and minors in studio art and psychology.
