SOCnet v1.0 and dandelion clocks at the Art of Systems Biology and Nanoscience at the Santa Fe Complex / April 1-2, 2011 / Santa Fe, NM
john carpenter and adam stieg
john carpenter was the first artist in residence for the Art of Systems Biology and Nanoscience conference (april 1-2, 2011). at the conference, he exhibited two interactive video projection artworks: dandelion clocks and SOCnet v1.0.
SOCnet v1.0 is a new collaboration with adam stieg from the UCLA california nanosystems institute. this work explores emergent self-organized criticality in complex networks. as viewers interact with the work, their movement alters the virtual network's environment, allowing the system to form connections and nodes. these connections strengthen and dissipate over time based on their frequency of stimulation.
special thanks to elaine bearer and everyone at the santa fe complex.
