light shadows and fields_SE at Young Projects / September 22, 2011-January 6, 2012 / Los Angeles, CA

john carpenter exhibited two new interactives works: light shadows and fields_SE. fields_SE is an interactive installation that explores the complexity of growth in fields. each time the sketch runs, a unique plant system grows and responds to the environment and the viewer. in this installation of fields_SE, multiple projectors were mapped to the environment to create a fully immersive experience for the viewer. this work is based on the artist's photographs and drawings of fields in sweden.

light shadows is an interactive installation that plays with the non-linear relationship between the forms of leaves in trees and the shadows they create. in this work, the movement of the light, and the rotation of the shadows (the spots of light) change according to the time of day.
